Kenya is incredibly diverse and has many celebrated safari destinations. Probably the most popular being the magnificent Masai Mara, a vast savannah that stages one of nature’s greatest spectacles – the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras traverse the plains in search of fresh grazing. However, even if you’re not going to be travelling during the Great Migration, there are still huge numbers of resident wildlife to enjoy. It’s often the case that people fear the numbers of other tourists and vehicles at this time (which is an unavoidable situation) and rather chose a time outside of the migration to visit as there is always fantastic wildlife to witness.

The Masai Mara is a UNESCO World Heritage site, home to the proud Maasai people, and offers unparalleled opportunities to witness big cats in action – with its golden grasslands supporting abundant lion, leopard, and cheetah populations – as well as other iconic wildlife.
Amboseli National Park, set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, is renowned for its large elephant herds that roam freely across the plains, while its diverse landscapes of marshlands, dry lake beds, and acacia woodlands create a photographer’s paradise.

The northern frontiers of Laikipia and Lewa present a different face of Kenyan wilderness, where ancient lava flows and kopjes (rocky hills) create a rugged, beautiful terrain that harbours some of Africa’s most unique, varied and endangered species. These private conservancies are at the forefront of rhinoceros conservation, protecting both black and white rhino populations, while also providing sanctuary for the rare Grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. The region’s commitment to community-based conservation has created a unique safari experience where luxury meets sustainability, allowing guests to engage with local communities while enjoying exclusive game viewing in pristine wilderness areas.

Meanwhile, the Rift Valley and its soda lakes, including Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha, attract flamingos and other birdlife, offering exceptional birdwatching opportunities. Kenya’s coastal region, with destinations like Diani Beach and Lamu Island, adds a tropical flair with beautiful beaches, Swahili culture, and historical landmarks.

Together, these destinations showcase Kenya’s diversity, from its savannahs and wildlife-rich reserves to its vibrant cultures and passionate conservation. Whether seeking exciting safaris, cultural immersion, or even relaxing by the sea, Kenya offers unforgettable experiences for every traveller.
